This two hour workshop will be hosted by New York Therapy Placement Services.
This workshop introduces participants to the utility of yoga and mindfulness, and its benefit to overall health and day to day experiences of life. Participants will be introduced to movement based techniques that can be experienced in a chair or seated position. Kids with differences in abilities who are supported in a seated position can have access to yogic activity through modified strategies. In addition, so many of the environments that kids spend their time in are not set up for yoga on a mat or floor– school classrooms, buses, cars, airports, you name it! In order for kids to be equipped with strategies that they can take with them anywhere they go, practitioners need to be prepared to offer simple and sustainable movement strategies that respond to the fast paced and packed days our kids are navigating daily. This workshop is applicable to teachers as well as parents and family members. No prior experience with yoga is necessary.
Participants will be able to:
● Articulate and understanding of the brain, mind, body connection.
● Articulate how traumatic stress impacts children’s learning and other daily functions.
● Articulate the benefits of using mindfulness, movement and chair yoga practices in clinical settings, agencies, schools and group and individualized therapy with children.
● Organize and implement chair yoga poses and practice that will benefit a variety of needs and goals for children.
(Monday) 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
